Vaccination against tick-borne encephalitis (TBE) is mandatory for students whose study programmes include fieldwork. In accordance with the National Vaccination and Medicines Protection Programme, the costs of vaccination for students who are exposed to the risk of infection during practical or fieldwork activities are covered by the Health Insurance Institute of Slovenia (ZZZS). Under the Health Care and Health Insurance Act, ZZZS covers the cost of mandatory vaccinations only until the end of the academic year in which the student turns 26.

In 2025, free vaccination is also available to adults born between 1970 and 1980.

At the Student Health Centre of the University of Ljubljana, self-paid vaccination against tick-borne encephalitis is also available (price per dose: EUR 30).

Students aged 26 and over are not entitled to free vaccination, even if they are full-time students with valid student status. Free vaccination is also not available to students whose study programmes do not include fieldwork.

Vaccination instructions

Please bring the following to your vaccination appointment:

  • health insurance card (international students: European Health Insurance Card + a copy, or the form “Entitlement to Health Care Services for a Foreign Insured Person” + a copy),
  • vaccination booklet,
  • certificate of enrolment (as proof of eligibility for free vaccination).

You must be completely healthy at the time of vaccination. If you become acutely ill or are unable to attend your appointment for any reason, please cancel the appointment via the application as soon as possible to free the slot for another student.

Vaccination is carried out at the Student Health Centre, Aškerčeva cesta 4, main entrance. Please be on time.

Vaccination schedule

  • 1st dose (day 0)
  • 2nd dose (1–3 months after the 1st dose)
  • 3rd dose (5–12 months after the 2nd dose)
  • 1st booster (3 years after the 3rd dose)
  • All subsequent boosters (*5 years after the last dose)

*For individuals over 60 years of age, booster vaccination is recommended every 3 years.

If you have already been vaccinated in the past, please send a certificate of completed vaccinations (a photocopy of your vaccination booklet) with your personal details (first name, last name, date of birth, field of study, and year of first enrollment) to cepljenje@zdstudenti.si.
